Canada is a priority market for the European and Spanish wine sector and in 2015 was the fourth destination of European exports reaching 780 million euros.
After seven years of negotiations, the European Council President, Donald Tusk, signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the EU and Canada this weekend (30.10.2016).
News from both the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) and the European Committee of Wine Companies (CEEV), consider it “very positive and will undoubtedly contribute to improving trade relations with a special partner of our wineries ”
Canada is a prior market for the European and Spanish wine sector and in 2015 was the fourth destination of European exports reaching 780 million euros. In the case of Spanish wine, its evolution has been very positive in recent years and in 2015 Spanish exports reached to 34.6 million liters, 10.9% more than in 2014.
These figures place Canada as the 14th destination for Spanish wine in terms of volume and 12th in value. Particularly noteworthy is the average price of Spanish wine in this market, which at 2.46 € / liter placed Canada as the sixth country where Spanish wine has the highest price.
