FAMILY TRADITION

The Ametller family arrived at the region two centuries ago, in 1824. They came from Salomó (Tarragona) setting in the town of Sant Martí Sarroca where they acquired a small farm that eventually became the present Heredad Ametller (country estate).

These were times of political and social turmoil on the verge of the industrial revolution but that was a great opportunity for the Penedes that became the wine reference for Catalonia.

The Ametller family follow the steps of the innovator wine cellars of the areas surrounding, which at the moment were foremost among the Spanish and Catalan winegrowing industry, essentially combining tradition linked to this land with innovation, identity sign of the DO Penedes / DO Cava.

Seven consecutive generations have been looking after these lands, so they know perfectly well which are the best areas for each of the varieties, the ideal time for carrying out the different tasks and finally the right moment to collect the grapes. So, there is maximum control and knowledge of the vineyards characteristics.

At present, the vineyards are distributed among the town-ships of Sant Martí Sarroca, Torrelles de Foix and Font Rubí, in the sub-area known as “superior” where the landscape alternates vineyards and forest and the height of the vineyards varies between 300 – 500 meters, much higher than the vineyards of the maritime area with a 50 – 100 meters altitude.

A complete range of white wines are elaborated, taking into consideration the tastes of all consumers and respecting the character of the area, with xarel-lo grape as main protagonist, together with other more international wines, that start from well-known grapes such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot or chardonnay.

The Ametller wines are fully bouquet, taste and freshness. Young, very rich in smell, smooth texture and balanced wines. Mediterranean pleasure for our senses.
